The term ‘content marketing’ has gained a lot of notoriety in recent years but what is it and what does it mean in relation to your business?
In the simplest terms, content marketing is about using content (remember we spoke about that in a previous blog here) to market your business, gain new leads for your product or service and build the profile of your business.
Rather than use the hard sell, content marketing is a softer approach that only really works when a business creates content that is of value to someone somewhere.
A great example of content marketing is a business blog. A blog is a part of your business website that you update regularly with new blog posts on topics that will be of interest and of value to people who are potential customers for your business.
The blog posts are displayed in reverse chronological order and maintaining a blog allows you to post regular content to your website, which in turn boosts your site’s presence in search engines. Win win!
Other examples of content marketing are videos, podcasts, infographics, books/ebooks, and webpages themselves. For example, you could have a page of useful resources on your website, where effectively you are giving away valuable information for free.
If you are producing content that answers questions that people are actively searching for online, then you will drive potential customers to your website and there is a chance these leads will convert to real paying customers for your business.
